Club 105
Okay.
I have completed my statistical analysis for 2010.
I have only 105 players that interest me...after that it is time to get out the dart board and lucky dip.
The 105 includes players who haven't played a game.

Oh, and Gerry...you may want to change your avatar to reflect the fact that the current name of our league is ASFFL.

Croz, it's a tribute to the old league.
It's like Brisbane having BBFC on the back of their jumpers...

Re: Club 105
I agree with Croz.
I too have all the stats and anthropometric data from last years draftees, but it means stuff all.
I can tell you that the under 18 coaches have very different goals to AFL players and play accordingly. Furthermore, players will not play the same roles in the AFL so I would suggest using them as a measure at your peril.

Maybe over 4-5 years yes.
I dunno, I guess I am just a little more educated in the system now and I have a strong opinion otherwise.
That said, a gun is a gun is a gun!

Re: Club 105
Lets see where you take the Raptors in 2015...should be interesting.
I think you have done well already considering where they were in 2008.
Then again, I dont think the coaching back then helped as they should have won a few more games if they had named players that were actually playing!!!

im assuming you are refering to whether or not a player can make the best decision in a game situation (under time and space pressure)

No.
What I meant was, as an example, flooding (or 'squeezes'/ 'fold backs' / 'presses' whatever you call them!) is banned in the Under 18 games.
Another example...coaches are not directly allowed to 'tag' in championship games.
Due to a lack of midfield brilliance...Scully and Trengove could be tagged from day one!
I stand by the fact that you will probably not see the real Trengove or Scully until they are in their early 20's.
Game is so different, even to say 5 years ago.

Re: Club 105
philisophical question...
my modifying the game at U18 & 16 level is the system failing to expose the players to the demands of AFL and if it is (my belief) isnt it at best delaying or at worst stopping the development of these young players???

Re: Club 105
Maybe.
I haven't thought about it or discussed it at length, but I believe that the reason they don't allow such tactics is to allow players be seen in their raw state.
I agree that this isn't ideal as it fails to show how players deal with issues such as tags and fold ins.
The real issue is that coaches at underage levels don't have the resources to best educate players about the intricacies of how to 1. apply tags and fold ins or how to deal with both.
At underage level, specifically state level, we train together only 8 times prior to the Australian Championships.
So if Sam Day were to be tagged when we go...it's very hard to have given him the chance to deal with it. Lets not forget it would probably be the first time he would be tagged and the real purpose of the Australian Championships is to showcase his talents for recruiters.
To take this a step further, it is also wort mentioning that the AFL system is far far advanced to the Under 18 competition and as Neil Craig said today "the reality is I need them for two years before I can truly expose them to what WE (crows) need let alone what other teams will do to them".
I agree that it isn't ideal, but nor would double and triple teaming Sam Day just to prove a point.

He seems a fair player Andy!
The funny thing about him is that he is apparently dumb as a plank and LOVES to pull angry faces in photo shoots.
