There's going to be tears this weekend!
Bangers are looking very vulnerable!

I cannot believe that I have actually won a game.
I was starting to think that it would never happen again.

Amazing how good it feels.

Ok, once again, we await Croz to get the final word.
Bangers 356 d Wolves 340. Never discount the Banger. Chappers and Barters to the rescue as Mr April Premier uses another 'get out of jail free' card.

Spartans 301 def by Mustangs 332. In a rather lacklustre derby Mustangs ride to another victory on the back of JMac who destroyed the hopes of Team Sparta - much like he did against Adelaide today.

Gladiators 360 def by Ridgebacks 410. Gilbert's 20 marks and 9 goals from Roughie and Pav allow a sweet victory for the Ridgies. Amazing he has to get 410 to win. Gladiators out fishing.

Warthogs 358 d Maulers 294. Barry Hall comes from nowhere to drag the Warties over the line although Brad Green put his hand up as well (another one involved in the destruction of Adelaide). Maulers gone fishing.

Raptors 404 d Terriers 399. Blasted Burton! Why can't he kick straight? Big congrats to the luckiest coach in the league. Death, where is thy sting?

Truckers 337 def by Heroes 386. Corey and McGlynn! step up to fill the big Roo shoes as the Hero sees off another challenger. Here we go again, Trucker. Where have your all stars gone?

When Croz returns to Earth, he will confirm or deny these results and maybe even furnish us with the premiership table.

its not lucky to get a 400+ score 2X in 3 weeks....

in fact, its bad coaching on my behalf when i had 2 other players make 7 and 9 tackles respectively...

My comment was based on our discussion about coaching in the ASFFL and luck.
However, you are a jammy bastard to win two high scoring games by less than six points!

Out of interest what would you put my losing (last year) down to if not luck?
And I want some objectivity instead of usual rhetoric and fluff.

I don't know who you are addressing this to but I will put my opinionated wankerism to good effect.
There were a number of clubs that had what I call 'yo-yo' results last year - I posted an example above of the extreme scores that the Raptors have got this year. This seems to be endemic in the ASFFL - except for a few clubs - Bangers and Ridgebacks, and possibly the Gladiators.
What happened was that your team happened (by mere chance) to meet teams when they were on the up. Whereas, Warthogs seemed to meet them all when they were down. There can be no other reason for it.
All you can do as a coach is post the best team possible.

No, I was actually asking Evan as he seems to think my 2009 had nothing to do with 'luck'. I would suggest this game is 90% luck and 10% minimizing luck.

I mean is it possible that, scoring 390-400 odd most weeks I was actually coaching as well as I could have? In fact, from memory, there were games late last year that I had my team 'perfectly' placed in terms of maximising their score...yet still lost to scores around the 420-450 mark.

If so, there was large amounts of luck chiming in.

The 'mere chance' you speak of can be translated to 'luck'.

Re: Results Rnd 3

I like to avoid the term 'luck' because for some people it implies that there is this nebulous aura that we either have or don't have and therefore we can't control.
How many people do you know use the words "I'm not very lucky" to explain why they have failed in a particular venture. Or coaches that say, "We just needed a bit more luck to go our way on the day" as excuse to explain the poor form of their team.
"Mere chance" is a statistical term to explain why, for example, it is possible to get five heads in a row in a game of heads and tails. Or why the number "12" comes up more often than other numbers at roulette table. There is no force behind it, no aura involved, no magical state that you have to be in that can influence chance.

There was nothing else you could have done with your team last year.

I can say this: it will NOT happen again this year (despite what you have experienced in Round 1 and 2).
If it does, I will eat my Crows cap.

I take on board what you say.
I guess I am less of a statistical or logical thinker and more of an emotional thinker.

What it does do is screw with your head...at times I could just feel that I had no chance despite the fact I was posting big scores in games. That is why I started to feel as though my luck was out. In fact, I maintain it was.
Rounds one and two felt liked nothing had changed.

That said, I just need to keep posting competitive scores and there is less 'chance' of it happening.

At the moment I am doing that.

I certainly don't see myself as a top 4 team though.
My list is too young. Which is my own fault.

My difference:

Bangers 356 defeat Wolves 346 (Wolves out by 6)

Spartans 307 defeat Mustangs 302 (perhaps I am drunk and missed something?)

Gladiators 354 Ridgebacks 388 (What the!!! Something is wrong!)

Warthogs v Maulers score correct

Raptors v Terriers score correct

Truckers 337 defeat by Heroes 387 (Heroes out by 1 point)

Gerry: Please check the above scores.

OK...Ridgebacks 410 ALL CLEAR.

Gladiators 354 NOT 360 (Mitchell Hahn is actually Mitch Hahn - he did play. I think you put my 1st reserve in - Ballantyne who kicked 1 more goal, hence the result of 360)

Bangers game ALL CLEAR

Spartans 300 NOT 301

Heroes 387 NOT 386

I grabbed all my stats a couple of weeks after the game, so these 1 point differences are probably correct on my scores?

Will publish sheets in first post
