Are coaches allowed to make changes to retained players at this point?

Question for Jase or Gerry Empty Re: Question for Jase or Gerry

My understanding is the only change you can make at this stage it to delist a player so you can draft someone else in that position. You cannot however delist someone and retain someone else who used to be on your list.

Why do you ask?

Just want to be sure before I make any grand statements about players I would plan on taking etc.

If they are locked in that is great!

Fair enough. You can wait for Gerry to give you an answer as well to confirm my view but I can almost see you from bursting from here with the desire to gloat about something someone did or in this case didnt do.

I am with you Jase,

My understanding is that you can delist another player if they are injured so you can take a player in their place but not change to a player delisted from your 2012 list

cheers, shannon

Is this leading somewhere Macca or you just playing around and having fun?

Which is ok if thats all your doing, but I must admit you have me curious to where this is heading.

Does the constitution support your governance Jase/Shannon?

Or do we not use that anymore?

Question for Jase or Gerry Empty Re: Question for Jase or Gerry

Post by Jason Thu Jan 17, 2013 11:22 am

Yes the constitution supports our views. But since you asked the question it makes me wonder why since you would be aware of the rules. Hence why I was curious to hear Gerrys thoughts.

But the 2 relevant parts in the constitution for this are:

1.4 [8] The cut-off time for the submission of each team’s Player Retention form shall be determined by the Executive but certainly at least two days before the Pre-Season Draft.

This was obviously done so the cutoff time has past.

3.3 [8] Unforseen Circumstances:
Should any retained player, before the PSD, retire, become long term injured, or involve themselves in any acts that may see them in penitentiary / rehabilitation, you are not allowed any form of recourse. You may, however, immediately delist the player and be eligible to select a player with the pick in the Pre Season Draft, but cannot choose to take another player from your list as ‘retained’. As an example, Andrew Crosby chooses to retain Wayne Carey at pick one. Wayne Carey is found knee deep in an unsavoury act. Wayne Carey retires. Andrew Crosby, if he chooses to delist Carey, is now ‘down’ one retained player but may ‘draft’ a new pick one come the PSD.

Whilst this doesnt specifically mention your scenario, the intention of the rule is quite clear. Especially when you consider that retaining players is not a must, coaches can choose not to retain any players if they so desire.

So in a nutshell you can delist a retained player but not replace them with another from your old list.

I concur.
Just so I can hear what player Macca is going to talk up and then not pick.
