As the 1st game of the NAB Cup is on the 12th of February, 2 dates have been set 'unofficially' for the Pre Season Draft.

    5th or 12th February

Please indicate which dates suits best and please comment if you have another commitment that absolutely cannot be avoided.

Post by Jason on Fri Jan 08, 2010 7:34 am

I would really prefer Friday the 12th. I have to have permission to leave work before 4pm and as I am taking leave for 2 weeks on the 18th of Jan I will not be allowed a half day on Friday the 5th as I only come back to work in that week on the 1st of Feb.

For me to make the draft on the 5th I would have to call in sick, which also looks bad as it will be my first week back and its a friday.

So unless someone else has a similar issue, I would really appreciate the draft being on the 12th.

Can i change my vote (based on nothing more than me wanting to do it sooner than later) to the 12th?

Jase's reason is a good one so would like to support him...

edit: no worries...i changed it myself.

Yeah, I made the poll with the ability to change one's vote if need be.

Based on Jase's situation it looks like the 12t will be the day.

Still need to check with others though. If not we may need to look at a day other than Friday? but must be before the 12th.

I am personally against providing these stats for 2 reasons.

1: They are freely available at Footywire.com

2: I believe that this is a part of our game where everyone is capable of downloading the stats every week and keeping them. Those that choose to spend time collating them should not have to share them with others.

@Truck - this is not a dig at you by any means....it's just that this has been brought up before and I wanted to have my say. That being said, Im sure Gerry will either provide them, or convince me to lighten up and share the love. PSD 2010 date 55177

Yes, but there are some coaches who 'jag' a player who may have averaged very well over 3-4 games due to having these stats. They have no idea that they havent played much, and then go on to claim that it was great drafting.

I dont like it when that happens.

Im not sure if are aware, but every year I give all coaches a complete list of AFL players with a note of which ASFFL team has retained them.

I guess if you actually have a look at this BEFORE you go into the draft you might be better prepared for the season. Consequently, you might actually make the finals?

Post by Macca on Sat Jan 09, 2010 11:24 am

The simple facts are...(not in relation to the stats so much)...we do everything we can to make this a simple, inclusive game.
You and Gerry do so much work to allow anyone to be a totally involved in our great game.
If people choose to ignore the chance to 'buy in' wether that be through not engaging in the AGM or failing to use the data/forms/info you give them...well...we cant do much more.
If Andy, Bec, the girls...whoever...dont have the time (which I am not criticizing btw...everyone has their own priorities) to come on here, we cant worry about that.
The beauty of the game is that you can involve yourself on whatever level you want.
The only time I would be pissed is when after all the opportunity given, people still found reason to criticize new rules or lack of ability to understand the effort involved by the volunteers who run the game.
Retainees is a classic example; how long does it take to lock in your players? I say we set a date, email and remind, then bang...if their not in...no retainees.
I personally thinks its time we got more demanding rather than less.

macca... i really believe the game is no longer 'simple nor inclusive'.....

THIS IS NOT AN INDICMENT ON THE VOLUNTEERS WHO HAVE SET IT UP AND CONTINUE TO ADMINISTER IT........

i know that i can enjoy it for what its worth (including the forum banter) but it is now more complicated and time consuming than it has ever been.

the game (including recent changes) discriminates against those who are 'time and resource poor'.

Ev...although mindful of speaking for others I am pretty sure Croz, GC or I do not take it as a criticism when you raise these issues.

    However...
Rather than tell us the problem...can you help us with a solution?
The simplest one would be to play it like we did in 2000...with zero retainees and a simple commitment to rock up on draft day each year. Is that what your proposing?

I know what you are insinuating. I’m not trying to be difficult/ obstructive. Nor am I cutting down tall poppies. I’m just stating it ‘matter of fact’. Coaches and forumites have different levels of enthusiasm for our comp. You could say ‘enthusiasm levels’ peaked while we were all in the same workplace, which is only natural.

My opinion is that we should look at evolving the comp so that it continues to promote our friendship. At the moment, it feels as if ‘the comp is driving us’ when it should be the other way around.

    Getting back to stats.
If you go here you can get a copy of all stats for 2009.
Look about half way down the page where it says: "2009 stats in plain text Status:End of Season (Complete)"
If you download the file and then unzip it, one file says "2009_stats_total" you will get totals for every player, including number of games played.
Without being facetious, is this enough?
