Damm I guess I had better finally decide who im taking with my last pick for that bottom tier. Hmm Hentschel or Griffin?? Both are having good pre-seasons by all reports!
And a question Croz, what happens if a team doesnt nominate their retainees? Do all their player get put up in the draft?

There is nothing in the almighty constitution about this.
Perhaps a 'Hurry the f#!* up' might be in order?
Suggestions?

Re: Retained Players List due Friday 29th January
Well hopefully it doesnt happen, but there are a lot of teams that havent posted their teams yet. Unless of course they are like me and will wait till the last minute to lodge my team.
It is something however that probably should be covered by the constitution. Problem is whatever penalty is sanctioned it shouldnt be dragged out too long to hinder other teams preparation. So for example if the penalty was a loss of a retainee for every day, you need to have a cut off point of x amount of days where they lose all their players. I would also suggest that the picks lost should hurt the most, to act as a deterrent. So start with either the floater or the top tier and work your way downwards through the tiers.

Nah fuck 'em...cant get them in...no retained players.
It's not like it is a hard task...if you can't be bothered retaining players then piss off so someone else can play.
That said, be surprised if anyone didn't get them in.

Yes I thought about that, but then you have the issue if that coach then spits the dummy and quits.
Might not be a big issue as they obviously didnt care since they didnt lock their retained players in, but what about the poor coach that takes over the team?
Do they start with no retained players???

That'd be a different kettle of fish.
If they spit it and leave, you won't see me crying.
I know of at least two blokes who'd jump in.
We don't need to pander to those who want to hold us over the plank.

No I agree that our concern shouldnt be those leaving the game if they cant do the right thing.
My point was, what about the poor bastard coming in who gets the empty shell of a team? Not exactly fair for them as no one else has entered the comp under those circumstances.

In that case, they would be provided every chance to be on an equal footing.
They would get to participate in the draft with the chance to retain.
The date we have set is for coaches who...
1. Know better
2. Have had ample time (how long do you need?...do you need to scout trainings?)

Re: Retained Players List due Friday 29th January
I agree they should be afforded every opportunity that everyone else gets.
I guess what im concerned about it how fine we have cut it this year with our retainees. In previous years we have had to lock in our team before school ends. This then allows plenty of time for people to prep for the draft, if they so choose of course.
But this year we are just allowing 2 weeks before the PSD to lock in our retainees. Now im not complaining, but merely pointing out that if this is to become common practice then it doesnt allow much time for a new coach to come in select their team and still give enough time for people to prep for the draft.

Re: Retained Players List due Friday 29th January
I dont recall locking in our retarded players before school ended the previous year.
In fact I was under the impression that we are allowing MORE time this year.
Wasnt it usually the Friday before the draft (i.e. 1 week)?

Maybe im wrong, but I was 99% sure my first year in the league we had to lock in the players earlier than usual and it was before end of the school term. I think it was to give you more time Croz to get the draft night stuff ready for everyone ie the available players list etc.
I dont remember what we did last year though.

I am pretty sure we locked them in the year before one of the drafts...maybe 2008?

Re: Retained Players List due Friday 29th January
OK, we must have then. Actually I do remember that now come to think of it.
We voted on a couple of options...1 was something like Wk 8, and the other was the last day of school...which I think got voted in.
Perhaps we should do that at the end of this year?

Yes we should.
Lots should be done at the end of the year...including locking in players and paying for the following season...that commits people to do the right thing.

Re: Retained Players List due Friday 29th January
Personally I think earlier the better. A lot can happen during the pre-season and a lot of information can be gained in that time as well.
I think we are better off basing our selections of retainees based on what we saw last season than what we read from the pre-season reports. Makes it more challenging and fun.

Re: Retained Players List due Friday 29th January
If someone doesnt make a decision a decision will never be made.
The constitution states:
but of course you knew that...
And the executive determined that the date shall be January 29th 2010
The constitution states:
The cut-off time for the submission of each team’s Player Retention form shall be determined by the Executive but certainly at least two days before the Pre-Season Draft.
but of course you knew that...
And the executive determined that the date shall be January 29th 2010
