Are we doing a partial lockout again?
The first game this week is on Thursday night
Why I don't know, but I would propose that coaches have a partial lockout until Friday night.
What do you think?

Re: Are we doing a partial lockout again?
Can someone help me out here, im a little confused. I read this exchange the other day
Yet when I re-visited the partial lockout thread again I read this
So to summarize its only a good idea to bring in mid season rule changes when the righteous brothers agree with it.........
Ok now that ive had my fun, we've already had 1 partial lockout what will another hurt? So I vote yes Gerry.
Megabonus wrote:we keep forgetting that coaches draft accordingly........we cant bring in rules mid season!!!!
Macca wrote:Not entirely true Evan...we allowed rookies to play.

No, to be fair I should have only had Pez's quotes as he contradicted himself, but whats the fun in allowing fact to get in the way of a good story?

Re: Are we doing a partial lockout again?
dont think i contradicted myself.....
i simply suggested that with advanced planning a partial lock-out would be a good idea (that is, introduced it via the constitution...).... this alteration doesnt compromise the comp...
whereas
allowing rookies to play or awarding points in any other way other than head to head games goes against the fabric of the comp...

Re: Are we doing a partial lockout again?
Actually, I got the times wrong.
It's 5.40 WA time.
So we can still change Carlton/West Coast players up to 6.40 our time...

Re: Are we doing a partial lockout again?
This has to be the dumbest round I have ever witnessed.
We need to address the byes before next year as there are moves for each team to have two byes.
My only hope is that they spread them out during the year as opposed to the "six team bye" nonsense we have now.
What were the AFL thinking when they came up with this draw!

Re: Are we doing a partial lockout again?
Whilst you are right and I share your frustration, we've known about this for a long time and failed to being in strategies to allow our game to work through it.
We all want head to head competition but under this bye system it's ridiculously flawed.
We needed people to give opinion and use some thought and unfortunately about 4 did that, and the result is we did nothing of any effect except to allow rookies to play.
We could have...
Rewarded the top six scorers of the round
Allowed coaches to assign their usual players and have their average score?
Minimised team numbers ( 2 possessions, 1 of all other categories)
Had a mid season on line draft for players to be used over the byes
Had no games over the three weeks
The issue is as much about coaches being involved as it is structure.
Just saying!

Re: Are we doing a partial lockout again?
while i agree with you macca re: coaches having a less than enthusiastic involvement in said matter....
hoewever
Reality #1 - many coaches would argue that "we knew about it at the start of the year" thus leading to a 'cant be stuffed meddling with the rules again' attitude.
Reality #2 - some coaches are more proactive with regards to the evolving nature of our game/comp while others are happy to be part of the draft and after that pick a team on a weekly basis
the rules are the same for everyone....coaches couldve planned for this by drafting accordingly....even with suspensions and injuries, on top of the byes, i had players on the bench...
C'est la vie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Are we doing a partial lockout again?
Drafting accordingly? You seriously think people can adjust their drafting techniques based on preparing for byes?
Your biggest problem seems to be that you judge everyone from your own strategies.
This is not about the fact you plan accordingly for byes ( which I doubt you thought about in the draft but I guess if you say you did I have to believe you) it's more about the league.
Please try to be a bit bigger picture and less 'cest la vie'

Macca

NO NO NO....wrong.....I judge everyone by the strategies available to them which they fail to utilise....no-one has been disadvantaged (except by the luck of the AFL draw).....in fact any last minute changes would disadvantage anyone who drafted accordingly....
so no....this is not about me but the integrity of the comp....
BTW - having the second highest 'For' score, the proposal wouldve suited me

I couldnt agree more, especially the bolded part.
There is no doubt however we need to look at it for next season especially if the following is anything to go by
"The league accepts it is still learning how to structure six-game weekends, with six of them scheduled for a new 24-week draw next year"
